Tamashii Exclusive D-Arts MetalGarurumon Figure Review

  • Brand: Bandai
  • Figure Line: D-Arts Digimon
  • Character Name: MetalGarurumon
  • Original Price: 4,410yen
  • Special Release: Tamashii Webshop Exclusive
  • Release Date: 22 June 2013
  • Official Site: http://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000079763/

The original price was 4,410yen but I had to pay a extra with conversion and shipping. It was bought through a Japanese website which sold overseas. It arrived in 3 days since shipped from Japan.

This is also my first D-Arts Digimon. I wasn't interested in the rest as they have been made so many times that it looks the same as my Black Wargreymon Model Kit and my D-Real Omegamon that I found it pointless. BUT I'm still waiting for a Imperialdramon... I might just get it.

Now on to the review!
Please excuse the amateur photos. Click the pictures to enlarge!
--------------------------------
The Box
It arrived beautifully protected, exactly as expected with all my purchases from Japan so far. It comes with a brown outer-box to protect the much thinner display box of the figure.
The tiny words under the Japanese text in the top-middle of the box says "Bandai Collecters Shop".
The box measures 9 x 6 x 3 inches

Ta dah~! Beautiful, isn't it? There's a Toei sticker on the bottom left corner like on all Digimon Products released for the last 10+ years. I would like to take a picture without the flash but it's either that small flash or a big line.

And here we have the back of the box. Sporting a brief description of the character on the bottom left in Japanese and the accessories included on the insert images on the right. It really makes him look like a wolf there with a moon-like background. That really makes me want to make him do a moon-howling pose but we'll get to that later.

Here's the rest of the sides(Clockwise from Top): Top, Right, Bottom and Left
Not for children under 15 years of age.

Here it is opened. The flaps sport the tamashii website including a QR Code for mobiles. Haven't tried where that leads to yet.

The Figure
Here it is REALLY opened! I have already taken off the other plastic piece to show you a nicer picture of what's inside instead of all that reflecting.

Here's MetalGarurumon! Albeit a shodyphoto...I'm sorry :( I just took it out of the box and quickly snapped a photo (as you can see with the plastic bits still there) and started looking at it all over.

The figure stands at approximately 3.5 inches up to the ears, full body length from nose to outward-facing tail is almost 6 inches. The body width from shoulder to shoulder(excluding the shoulder torpedos) is close to 2 inches and has a wingspan of 8 inches(if the wings are laid flat down).

The paint is a smooth glossy metallic paint for the armored parts, very well painted. The eyes are perfect!

Here's another picture of the overall paintjob.

I would have preferred if they cut off the excess plastic a little better and sand it off but I guess that can't be expected from a mass-produced figure. Good thing is that it's at the back of the figure where people don't usually look at or pose with the butt sticking out.

Here's the accessories:
- The wings & their "flying effects".
- Two "attack effects": MetalGarurumon's Cocytus Breath and Garuru Tomahawk.
- The little piece of plastic on the bottom right is a posing grip you put under MetalGarurumon's belly which connects to a Tama Stage Act.5 according to the manual. No stand included.

Here's Garuru Tomahawk in detail, it's small. I have yet to try removing Metalgarurumon's chest piece.(I don't think I ever will)

Here's the simple Instruction Manual of the assembly and where each "effect" goes. At the bottom of the manual is a website link https://www.dataresearch.jp/sys/usr/caution.php that thanks you for your purchase and is also a survey/suggestion form which upon completion enters you into a little lottery(it's unknown what you will get).

Posability
I have tried light posing but it does not come near to any Revoltech nor the D-Real figure line. I can't make it moon-howl. I can't make it crouch or sit. Other than the four limbs which have 360 degree rotation on it's primary axis, movement for the other joints are very limited.

This might be due to the fact that this could be their first quadruped D-Arts but it's definitely the first D-Arts Quadruped Digimon.
